Samsung Isocell HP5 shrinks the 200 MP sensor to new extremes

Ana sayfa / News

Samsung has officially unveiled the Samsung Isocell HP5, a sensor that takes the 200 MP race in a smaller, more precise direction. It’s compact, efficient, and designed to make telephoto and ultra-wide smartphone cameras more powerful without adding bulk.

The new sensor measures 1/1.56 inches, slightly smaller than the earlier HP9’s 1/1.4-inch format. Yet it still packs the same 200 MP resolution. To do this, Samsung shrunk individual pixels from 0.56 µm down to just 0.5 µm.

That pixel reduction isn’t just a spec-sheet win; it enables slimmer lenses and tighter camera modules. That’s why the Samsung Isocell HP5 is expected to show up in phones like the Oppo Find X9 Pro, specifically in the telephoto unit.

HMD Touch 4G ditches the keypad for a full touchscreen, offering a compact body, cloud services, and smart features at a budget price.

To offset the light loss that comes with smaller pixels, Samsung has upgraded the micro lenses that sit above the sensor. These improvements help collect more light and reduce reflections, key for clean, sharp telephoto shots.

Samsung says this makes the sensor especially suited for auxiliary cameras where space is at a premium.

One standout feature is dual in-sensor zoom, which lets the sensor perform digital zoom with improved clarity extending reach without relying on extra hardware. It also supports real-time HDR by combining three exposures into a single image in under two seconds, even at the full 200 MP resolution.

Despite its small footprint, the Samsung Isocell HP5 doesn’t hold back on performance. It can shoot:

These specs give the sensor enough headroom to compete with much larger components in premium flagships.

The Samsung Isocell HP5 isn’t just another megapixel push, it’s a rethink of how sensors can scale down without compromise. With more phones moving toward thinner profiles and versatile camera arrays, this could become a go-to for brands aiming to pack more into less.

The big picture? Small sensors now bring serious power.
